Norfolk Excited for Arrival of Carnival Cruise Ship

NORFOLK,Va. Carnival Cruise Lines will return to Norfolk in 2015 deploying the newest and largest ship ever to sail from the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center. The 952-foot long Carnival Splendor will operate a unique series of itineraries, including a Bermuda cruise, and a two-day Cruise to Nowhere.

"We're delighted to welcome one of Carnival's newest and largest ships to Norfolk," said Norfolk Mayor Paul D. Fraim. "The Splendor's presence on our waterfront demonstrates Carnival's confidence in Cruise Virginia and the outstanding service Norfolk has to offer Carnival's passengers and crew."

The 113,000-ton Carnival Splendor accommodates 3,006 passengers and 1,150 crew members.

In addition to the Carnival Splendor calls, 20 stop-over cruises are scheduled for the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center in 2014 and 2015. In total, this represents nearly 60,000 cruise passengers visiting Norfolk.

"We will continue to grow the business at Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center," said Stephen Kirkland, National Maritime Center Director. "Whether increasing the number of cruise seasonal homeport and stop-over calls or growing the event rental business, I am committed to looking for unique opportunities to attract residents and visitors to Norfolk's beautiful waterfront."

2015 marks the 13th year that Carnival Cruise Lines, the world's largest cruise company, has offered sailings from Norfolk.
